CAI and Exhaust- No power gain whatsoeva
yes, if you want performance you need to run true duals. true duals get rid of the y-pipe. alot of people say it cant be done on dakotas because of the gas tank, but they're full of ****. remember, just because it's true duals doesnt mean both pipes have to go strait back. you can run both pipes down the driver side and then split them off or do whatever you want. your other alternative is to get an aftermarket y pipe. i think JBA makes one. you'll notice power gains if you do that as well.
true dual exhaust offers no benefit over a properly sized single, and if you're not putting any sort of crossover pipe in there you're not getting the most out of it.
Instead of doing all this guessing,
switch to measuring.
If at full throttle the IAT sensor reading goes down,
the MAP sensor reading goes up
and the exhaust backpressure goes down
the chances are more than 90%
that the engine is producing more horsepower and torque.
Don't guess....measure, measure, measure.

Horatio-
Im with you man. I believe that a properly tuned exhaust is critical, even if that means a single pipe, expecially on the 4.7. So, do you have any particular exhaust kit that you recomend??? I've been looking at some flowmaster set ups, but dont really know what is best for my truck. And of course, they ALL claim to add horsepower, but i know now that isn't always true. I really appreciate the help.

no, but ive seen pictures of some one who did on a 4.7. and yes, i would also reccommend an x-pipe or something to balance out theexhaust pulses. that way you will get great sound and great power.

I know i was hopin you had done it i wanted to hear it... 95% of the daks you see have a Y pipe, which is usless...if you have a 2.25 into the Y and 2- 2" to 3" outlets, A: sounds bad B: no performance gain at all...
go to www.dodgedakotas.com and talk to graphite dak, he's the one who has true duals on his 4.7. he actually has his own site with various sound clips and videos of his dak... sounds pretty good. he frequents the v-8 board. i think he's got a video on youtube too.
actually here's the link to that youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDMWBCpf0s8
