but I always use castrol GTX syntec 10w30 and a fram synthetic oil filter in both my trucks, well the 88 gets the used oil outta the 99 and a cheap filter.
isnt that bad for the 88 to put used oil into it, i would never reuse oil
synthetic oil doesnt break down like regular oil. some people go 8-10k on an oil change. I go 5k on each truck. it helps make up for the oil being so expensive too. and my oil is still clean after I do an oil change, so why not re-use it.

we end up collapsing the filter everytime we dont have time to change our own, the next time when we change it ourselves they seem to have put the filter on so tight that we need 2 people and a filter wrench to get it off and then it comes off crushed in from one side

same problem on the 1st gens when removing the filter, a friend of mine changes oil at jiffly lube and he says Dakotas are always the messiest
Dakotas are the messiest compared to what? Try changing the oil on a 2004 Maxima. Now that's a mess! On that car, the filter is horizontally placed higher on the block. Also, the 01 Dakota 4.7 I have is easier to change the oil on than the '99 Expedition I had. I dunno - just doesn't seem that inconvenient to change to me other than the amount of oil (6 quarts).
