Another 2000...Dodge Dealer this time
So i passed up that 2000 from the ****ty fly by night guy (i posted a while ago) and then i just passed on a V8 auto 1999 with 63000 on it saturday but the Dodge dealer just called me today about a 2000 5 spd that he got in with 95000 miles from one of their employees. Its a dealer so there gonna run it through the shop and fix anything wrong with it on friday then im going to look at it saturday. Just wanted to know if there are any problems or things to look for with the 2000 since it was the first year for the 4.7. Thanks for any help and hopefully i get the truck on saturday. They want around 10k for it but i've been waiting long enough and since its through a dealer ill probably just take it. Once again thanks for any help.
yea i definitaly haven't taken the first one i've found i've been searching religiously since like the end of january and turned down a bunch...hopefully they do a good bit of work to it then i wont have to worry about as much stuff.
I just bought a 2001 4.7L with around 96K miles on it. Besides the obvious things to check for (does it smoke, rust, solid exhaust, good tires, etc.) see if you can get the dealer to do a little bit extra for you.
For example, in addition to the check-up on the car, request the dealer to do a full-service on it and see what they say. Include:
- Transmission flush
- Radiator flush
- Fuel injector clean
- Rear diff change (stretching to get them to do this)
- New plugs
- New air filter
- Oil and filter change
- Bleed the brakes
Other things to look for specifically -
- Make sure the front rotors are in good shape. Does the car shimmy when breaking? Problem area for our trucks
- Make sure the shocks are good. This is, based on what I read in this forum, a weak area from the factory with our trucks. I had to replace mine
- Make sure the wheels are balanced. Drive it from 0 - 75 or 80 and make sure there is no shimmy
- Make sure the front end is aligned well
That's all I can think of for now.

before they do all that get it, have it spoted...the fluids that it, this tells a huge story...if they are all old broke down ect, ur wastin ur time, dont see what you can get out of them, its not worth it...
take it to ur mechanic the dealer is the worst posible place to buy a vehicle due to the fact that they know what to "hide"

I bought mine with 37522 miles on it and so far at 76600 I have had no major problems with it. All that I have needed to do was put new front shocks on I went ahead and did all 4 with bilsteins. Replaced the pads and rotors up front. I also had the power steering pump go out but that was because putting a huge strain on it by spinning around the trucks axis in 4-wheel on ice, the pump obviously did not like that. 4-wheel still works fine. Other than that I have not had anything else major go wrong.

yea im pretty sure their not gonna try and hide to much from us tho because my grandfather and dad have been getting cars here for most of their lives and they know them pretty well plus the other one i was looking at they had like a whole 2-3 pages of things they repaired that totalled like $1000 or so...does anyone know why there is still the v8 magnum badge on the outside of the 2000's and it says magnum on like the intake box and such...not sure if there all like this but the ones i've looked at are where as the 01's and up which have the same engine dont have the badges and stuff...jw
So went up and drove the truck today...it was a smoker but other than that is awesome...its going to get detailed on monday and getting new shocks on it sometime next mon or tues. They say that 95-98 percent of the cig smell will be out after the detail and its not that big of a deal to me although it is kinda annoying, as long as most of its gone a good air freshener should do the trick. So hopefully if everything goes good i will have it by weds or thursday...it has 90000 miles and just got new tires they want 9600 for it but were pretty sure they'll take 9100 for it at least. So since i know we will be buying it unless something really goes wrong i was wondering what the stock exhaust size is because i wanna buy a cherrybomb and pipe to put a side pipe on it so i can do it as soon as i get it[8D]
thanks for any help or suggestions maybe even some pics if anyone has a sidepipe on there dak...thanks
