water pump ideas
ratchet and sockets, don't recall what size, nothing problematic
pipe wrench for the fan
wire wheel to clean up gasket surfaces
gasket sealant and gasket
may as well do the thermostat while the system is drained, my opinion
i changed my timing chain as well, although it didn't seem to need it, new one is as sloppy as the old one, guess that's how it's supposed to be

Hey...
I started to do the pump on my 2002 3.9L, picked up the pump myself from Crappy Tire and I ran into the problem of the spanner tool needed to remove the fan from the clutch... I went to Part's Source to get a loaner tool but it wasn't the correct tool.
So i took it to the garage and had them put the pump on... only to find when I drove it home it was still leaking fluid so I brought it back to the garage the next day and they told me it was a faulty pump.
Rough $500.00 later it was fixed. Hoorray!

Its really not that bad, but write down where all the bolts go because most are different sizes and you will never remember where each one goes. It shouldnt take you any more then 4-5 hours. you might want to buy a strap wrench to help hold the water pump pulley while you turn the fan clutch bolt.
