im sure this has been answered before but i dont hav time to look thru th archives for it. here's my problem: recently my check gauges light has come on but only for a few seconds at a time.it duznt happen every day but it shouldnt happen at all, right?what exactly duz this mean?is th issuse serious or can i jus ignore it?thanks for any input
id start with checking ur alternator....that is my guess, sounds like somthing is going out on it...take it to ur local autozone...better to have it changed now than get stranded...
was able to catch it...turns out my oil pressure gauge showed a drop when i came to a stop then returned to normal....this mean i need to do an oil change(im goin to do it anyways becuz its almost time) or is it a more serious problem?
yup just fixed this on 2 of my trucks. my check gauges would come on and oil pressure would drop, when stopping or taking a hard right turn. so just to check things out i added a 1/2 quart of oil to my 2000 durango. that fixed the problem. then tried it in my 2001 dakota, and it fixed the problem there too. it has been 4 months and no probs. it was just low enough on oil that when the truck shifted. it would set of the mil.
had the same thing on my 99,turns out it was low on oil, made me get under the truck as i had just done a oil change a few weeks earlyer, and found the filter wasn't tight enough makeing a small leak, bless that little light that saved me a pain in the butt later.
This just happened to me on monday,my "check gauge"light came on and my battery gauge dropped to nothing,I got it home popped the hood everything good(belt tight, wires connected to alt.)started it up the next morning and had no light"check gauges"I drove it to my mechanic to get the electric system checked out and on the way the "check gauges"light came on again about 10mins into driving it,got it to my guy and i found out I need an alternator.hope this helps ya bro.
A leaking oil pressure sensor can cause that problem too. I've replaced a bunch of those things because of that same problem.....oil pressure on the gauge drops to or near 0 at idle because the sensor is leaking inside the connector and shorting it out.
