Just put the Magnaflow #14586 on this morning replacing a Flowmaster 40. The extension pipe that had to be used in the stock exhaust system with the 40 had cracked (rust) and I didn't want to go that route again. The factory pipeswere stillfine. The Magnaflow is a direct fit to the factory pipes. It isn't near as loud as the 40 but has a nice sound when you put your foot in it. Mine is a 2001 3.9. In my opinion cat back systems in general are a waste of money since the factory pipes have minimal bends and unless you install headers, a larger catand larger diameter pipes all the way back you really aren't changing a thing. And going to larger diameter exhaust on the 3.9 will lose you bottom end which is where the 3.9 "lives".

I have a Gibson single in/ dual out cat back system on my 5.2 v8 4x4. 2 1/2" from the manifolds back with a high flow cat. Sounds great and is very mellow in the cab at cruising speeds and sounds even better at higher RPM's. Very smooth deep rumble with no raspy/ricer sounds. I noticed an increase in top end power with no loss in the low end. The fit and finish is great with only one minor issue...it doesn't work well with my hitch. I'm just going to have to take it to a muffler shop for a slight alteration of the tail pipes and it will work great. Install went well and I was able to do it in the garage without even using a lift or even a jack. The price is a little high but worth it to me.

deranged.. you are right about the 3.9 losing low end torque. this is why i dont reccomend going with a hi-flow cat or changing anything before the cat for that matter. adding 3" pipe from the cat back wont really affect anything other than a deeper sound. i have a video of my exhaust and it sounds great, but it's on a video tape and i cant figure out a way to put it on the internet.

i cut my muffler off, clamped on a cherry bomb turbo II and a downturn before the axle,
Loud, Raspy, and crackles like the wicked witch,
I love it! as long as i have the 4-banger, it'll stay
Edit:
I only paid 20 bucks,
took ten minutes to do all together
