I've been waiting for that intake to come out for months. A few days before it came out, I spun a bearing in the 5.2. Let me know when you get that intake. If you can, get some before and after dyno #'s.

Hey 5 Speed, Im thinking about those same headers... did they rust up at all or is that tri-tech really a decent coating?? how about noticeable power gains? thanks

they really held up perfect untill i drove it a couple times in the salt, that ate right through the coating... leaps and bounds ahead of painted headers though, as far as fit it was easy, and they hook right up to your stock pipes if you dont go with a custom setup like i did. as far as performance i havnt taken it to the track since it was stock and ove done mods after the exhaust too so its hard to say, but withthe headers, x pipe, no cat andV force mufflersit is the best sounding dodge pickup i have ever heard

Talk to Sam at SoCalDakota. He said they tested the eldebrock intake and he wouldn't recommend it over the M1 intake. I actually thought about selling my M1 and getting the one from hughes because of the lower RPM torque gain but they are charging way too much.

You can get the intake from them for less than $300 but you have to pay $520 or $530 for the install kit. The only thing of any value in that install kit is the 4bbl to 2bbl throttle body adapter, but you can get that from SoCalDakota for about $70.

The brackets that bolt down the fuel rails are definately overrated. I am a Salesperson at a metal stampings plant and we make brakets all day long and i can tell you, those brackets cost them about 80 cent a piece to make.

Don't get ripped off. Im sure there is a power gain but its not worth $722. If you have an M1 already, keep it. If you don't and you want to buy an intake, buy the intake & the intake only from Hughes. I'm sure for $520 you could buy that adaptor and get some brackets that will hold down you fuel rails.

You can get the carb. version of the Edelbrock FI Airgap intake for $300, NOT the fuel injected version. I guess you could buy this and if you were good enough you could add the injector ports and make your own brackets. Socal makes their own edelbrock fi intakes, probably not as good as Hughes if he thinks the M1 is better.

belive me i COMPLETELY agree with what your saying and after really thinking about it ill probley go with the M1 intake, that low end loss is mostly reported by guys with rams or guys that still tow stuff, and i dont tow anything i barley use the bed but that money Hughes is charging has alot to do with the injector bungs they installed on the edelbrock intake and thats why its so much, it you supply an edelbrock intake for them to rework its $450

the dyno chart below is from a moparts members dakota R/T with quite a few mods and the biggest one especially in higher RPMs is the M1 intake

I see now, Hughes sells the Eldebrock Airgap intake for $289, but the eldebrock FI Airgap intake is a whole different story. But if you read on their site, the kit still cost $457, they just dropped it. All in all, i have had no problem with torque loss in my R/T with the M1. When my engine hits about 2800 rpm, my the truck just leans back even more. Plus, i just bought my M1 intake out of jacksonville from a mopar shop about 2 months ago for$350 shipped and arrived the next day. Findand Airgapfrom Hughes for half that much & you've done something...
