Ok, here is MY point: Its sounds like you have water in your fuel tank. You added new gas, and it ran better, correct? Fill it up, put a fuel conditioner in there, and see how it runs. Your other option is to drain the tank, and start over. It sounds to me like you just has a bad tank of gas. If I'm wrong, feel free to tell me so.

I actually did drain the tank and like as said it was an amber color. I then put in some new gas but I'll have to throw in some additive stuff. It is running better, but still there is a poping sound like it's misfiring and the engine doesn't idle very well.

Yes we checked each one. I'm going to try something tomorrow morning. My dad has the same truck but the crew cab, so I'm going to pull his ignition coils and swap them on mine. That should provide some information, hopefully the right kind too.

Any other ideas?

So you also replaced the plugs? Are they all gapped to specs? Perhaps you got a bad plug? In my time with the 4.7, this engine is a solid performer. It sounds like it's something simple. I.E. Something out of whack.
By the way, that's a rockin' pic on your sig. Sorry guys, I just had to point that out...Damn!

Yes, I replaced the plugs and gapped to spec. This morningI pulled the new plugs after 5 min of use. The plugs in cylinder 5 and 6 looked blacklike those cylinders were running rich.I even unplugged the 5th and 6th coils and the diagnostic computer said that it wasn't misfiring at all and the engine ran the same. I also pulled the coils out of my dad's 2000 4.7L and it ran the same.

It's making a ticking noise that gets faster with acceleration. I don't know if that sound helps anyone think of any thing. I'm a suspension, transfer case, and axle guy. Engines scare me. Gas and sparks and... KABOOM... your face is blown off or your hands are.

That pic is pretty gnarly!! She's my girlfriend and she'd kill me if she knew I put that up.
She is freakin' sexy but a very classy girl and she's a twin too!!! It's double eye candy when we go out with her sister.
I asked her if I could have one picture for my cell phone and she agreed!!! Just as long as it showed no face and I didn't share it. Well, I had to share it!
and yes, I am pretty freakin' lucky!
