Default Oil Filter Placement

If I had to complain about 1 thing on my 04 dakota, it is the placement of the oil filter. Its easy to get to, but once you get it off, oil goes all over the damn place bouncing off the frame and that plastic guard. Anyone know of a better way of doing this. I thought about squeezing a funnel in there and catching the oil, but I cant seem to fit it in there. Maybe there is no way around it, I don't know.

you think thats bad.... you should see where toyota puts some of there filters.. right under the ****ing exhuast manifold with a damn hot cat right next to it.. so when people come into the shop after sitting in traffic for 4 hours and want a oil change in 5 min... its great.

I say just put a bunch of shop towels up in there and let it spill or get a PVC pipe and tunnel it out of the way of all the ****..

the only fix i found to solve that problem is to take an intake or exhaust valve from a tractor trailer diesel motor.. like a big cam cummins or a cat c15.. and grind the top of the valve to a point, viola, stab the filter with it, drain the oil then i take a huge pair of channel locks, and take the filter off that way.

Better yet a Walmart sack full of paper towels! That actually might be the best idea yet. It would make for an easy cleanup.

i dont have any real problems, but i change my own so i can let it sit in the garage for an hour or so(while the oil pan drains), then the only oil that comes out with the filter is what is in the

beats the hell out of trying to wipe up and dry out the floor from spilled oil, start the oil drain, go eat lunch and have a beer,(or two) and then go back and finish the job

a tip i learned, if you have time to do a full oil change. Take your coil wite off and once the oil starts to drip out the oil pan, turn the truck over (just make sure your ignition is disconnected coil wire.. from dist or coil w/e) and turn it over, abour another 1/2qt 3/4 of a qt will flow out.. and then once your done with that take half a new qt of oil and poor it though to wash out the sitting oil, put the drain plug back in and fill it up..

keeps your oil alot cleaner..
