Default stereo problem

well, i bought my first dodge, 01 dakota 4.7 4x4 club cab. anyway, i am installing a pioneer cd player. i pulled it (working) from my 96 grand cherokee, went t0 install it in the dakota, hooked up all the wires and testing it, and no power............i then unhooked it and pluged the factory one back in and it works, i checked the fuse on the cd player its fine. anyone have similar problems?

thanks,
Josh

I might be wrong, but they use diffrent harnesses dont they? You might have to cut the dakota harness off and get a harness from the 96 grand, and rewire it....

never tried to do this, so like i said not sure, i would check the harnesses and make sure they are the same..

only other thing that i can think of is, the fuse, but you said its fine do w/e. Err.. hmm, has to be some type of wiring issue.

get the universal adapter for the dakota. it plugs into the stock harness and you just connect all the wires from the harness to the deck. i did it about two months ago and my pioneer deck works great.

wrong harness, it works, but you have to know what the factory colors are, the wires on the jeep arnt in the same locations in hte harness...

What? The Jeep and the Dakota are the exact same harness. They both take a 70-1817 harness. The colors in the factory plug may be different, but they perform the same function in that pin location of the harness. There is not a different harness for the Dakota than for the Jeep. Different dash kit, same harness.

Did you make sure you grounded it using the seperate ground wire/strap in the Dakota? There is no ground on the harness.

Cross reference all your input and output wires from the deck to the wiring schematic for your vehicle. Wires may not be the same color, but they must go to the right place for unit to work.( power, ground, rf speaker, lf speaker, etc., speakers are sensitive to polarity)

also if you hav the infinity system that can cause some issues as well. just double check the harness and everything or take it to circuit city and have their roadshop guys take a look at it.
