Default Gen 2 what to look for

Hey guys, I searched but couldn't get anything to come up...

A little history - I've owned a '99 CC 2x4 V6, an 01 CC 4x4 V8, and a 06 QC 4x2 V8. I had to sell my '06 for financial reasons, so I am looking to get an older 4x4 under 8 grand.

What I was looking for is what I should be looking for in terms of things to watch out for. I know about the front end recall, but what other problems are common in the trucks? I've been looking at a low miles '99 V8 CC 4x4, but I don't have experience in the 318. Are they really dependable?Decent fuel economy? Any known problems? Or, is it worth to may more or get a higher mile 4.7? The '01 4.7 I had blew up on me at 41k so I'm a bit leery on those. Second question, any real benefit for the '01+ trucks? The only thing I see is (functionally) is a better center console and a AC on/off button.

Thanks for any help you could provide.

Well when I bought my 02 4.7 CC SLTabout a year and a half ago, I was basically going for price. I got mine for 11k out the door, with 88k miles. I'm now up to 106k with no problems at all. What I heard supposedly that the 4.7 were one of the best engines Dodge ever made. Now I dont know if the people I heard that from are talking about the 318 or thw 297 or 6 which ever it is. But my 297 or 6 is awesome, I love it, I tow my boatwith no problems, aswell as a trailer with quads on it.AC is awesome, mine cools down in no time at all, and the button is a perk. I would think that just becasuse you get a smaller engine in the newer trucks, I think they get same gas milage, and still have good power. Uhh, I really dont know what to add due to the fact that this is the first dak I owned so I cant really compare it to anything.

I prefer pre-2000 for 4x4's myself. Mostly for the 318/360 motors and there seems to be more lift choices for pre-02 (think it was 02 they went to rack&pinion steering).

I got my 99 fully loaded for under 8000 with 60k miles on it.

Check for plenum gasket leak. Vrey common on 318/360. Do a search, it'll turn up tons on the subject.
