Default front end

I have read the posts about alot of owners haveing to replace the ball joints, my question is how do you know if you need to replace them or not?
Does the truck handle differently or what?
Thanks!

Most of the time they just drop, and you have to get it towed and fixed... !

ya, when your front tire falls off..... its time to replace it

but if you jack up the truck and try to move the tire up and down. and if theres any play in it, then they are shot.

Thanks for the info!!
I would rather find the problem before the tires fall off while me or my 17 year old son is driving down the road.

So far the tires seems to be wearing fine so hopefully mine will be ok.
I have alse read that you can jack up the truck and grab the wheel and jerk back and forth and if there is a lot of side to side movement then they may need changed.

When you jack it up, put your hands at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock, if there's play that way then it's your ball joints. If there's play with your hands at 3 and 9, then it's tie rods. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I've always been told.
