Default no heat

I have 1997 Dakota V-6 Magnum 4x4.First let me say the A/C works great andI have the had the heating and cooling systems flushed with the heat on to get the core flushed out also. I have also disonnected the hoses to theheater core and flushed it seperatly. Here is the probem, I have little to no heat. I can turn it to defrost and it blows warm for a second or two then it goescold, I thenturn it to the floor and I will get heat for only a minuet or two the it blows cold. here is the strange part most of the time I will get heat coming out if the side vent that hits the door windows. I have talked with a good friend who is a Mopar mechanic and he can't figure it out either. The heater core does not leak but occasionalyI hear a gurgling sound that seems to be coming from the passenger dash area or firewall. Has anybidy else had this problem?

Did you ck the t stat?? maybe stuck open, causing no heat. Also ck the firewall for a acc valve for the cooling system. That valve would be on the pass side if there is one.

Probably just didn't get flushed good enough. Do a backwards flush on the heater core. I flushed mine for about 1-2 hours the other day and brown **** is coming out. Kept adding pressure till I had the hose on full blast. Each time I added pressure more would come...

I'm having the same problem with my '97 V8. I took it to Midas to fix the heat...and they charged me $150 to install AC coolant!

Can the heater core be flushed without depressuring the AC? Also, can the AC compressor be swapped out without depressuring?

1. yes.
2. no.

Both systems are independant, but you cannot swap the compressor without disconnecting the lines - meaning it must be depressurized
