Default Poor braking

98 V8 Auto - Brake pedal will literaly go to the floor when "standing" on it but will not lock up either front wheel (rear ABS) or stop the truck very quickly. Replaced front discs and adjusted rear shoes (helped a little) but still have poor braking. Thinking maybe the power booster is bad. Anyway to check? Suggestions?

bleed your brake lines before you go for anything expensive. might be something as simple as air in the lines, could be brake booster or master cylander though.

Most likely a failure of the master cylander or air in the lines.

For futue reference for everyone out there:

If the problem is getting progressively worse, it is most likely your brake master.
If it just sucks all the time, but doesn't really get worse, it is most likely a pad issue, rotor issue, caliper issue, pinched hard line issueor air in the lines

usually when the master cylinder is going, while stoped at a light the pedal will slowly sink to the floor. if this just happened all of a sudden i cant see how you got air in your lines unless you went off roading and punctured a line, but if you have no puddle of fluid that isnt it. I would start by changing both rear shoes and go from there.

I have 114,000 miles on my 01, QC, 4.7 manual 4x2 Dak.

I also have the ORIGINAL brakes, rotors (never turned), pads, shoes, etc!!

Still stops great too.

Using your parking brake at every park, keeps the rear drums in adjustment, which takes the work off the front rotors/pads, and keeps them working well.

Not waiting until the last possible millisecond to stop also takes work off the brakes, as well as mild downshifting of the manual tranny. :-)
