2000 CC V6 needs new tires
I tried to do a search, but I guess there are too many results, or not enough, or something. It's just easier to ask in a new post!
My 2000 Dakota CC V6 2WD needs tires. The current tires are Cooper Cobra G/Ts, and they totally suck in the wet or snow. Plus, they are the FAT 255's...so they stick out the fenders by 2 inches. Ricey?
Anyway, I'm looking for a good-wearing all-season that will do much better in the wet & snow, without being too loud on the highway. Admittedly, most of my driving is on the highway and in town, which is why I opted for the 2WD in the first place.
I'm also thinking of dropping down to the 235 width tire. I think this would grip better in the snow, and give me slightly better MPG. Any comments on this? I assume I can put a 235 on the stock rims?
Thanks for any advice, personal experience, etc.

I really like the cooper discoverer A/T tires. Any all terrain tire should be just fine though. you could try the 235's but if you have the 16" wheels you may consider the 245's I have 15" wheels and I am running 225 series (stock on mine is 215/75/15)
I have the stock 15" wheels, but I think there was an option for wider tires from the factory...not sure if the wheel is different between the options or not.
I would think I'd be OK going from the 255 to the 235 on the same rim.
Oh, and the Cooper Discoverer is on my list! Thanks

I think that the wider tire will do better in snow. More traction, more area. Makes more sense.
And I know stuck lol. Iv seen my friend in a 2wd like yours just quad cab get stuck on the side of the road due to ice...

Well it all depends on the type of snow you get. If your driving on slick/wet snow probably best with the narrower a bit, but 1 or 2inches probably won't make that much difference. I will would think that the weight of the vehicle would crush the snow, the bigger tread will help out, and wider will have more notches to grab on, that is why wider mud tires are good. I think it would be similar on snow tires. If you are driving on ice, get Blizzaks, one of the best tires there is for winter. Not sure how they will do on a truck though. On a car they are great.
umm i have coopers ASTs on mine (brandy new at the end of august this year) i can NOT make the tires spin with out holding the brake or putitng the pedal all the way to the floor, they are amazing i highly recommend them
