Stalling on incline + tranny
#1 This is the second day in a row that while in a parking garage and shifting into reverse the truck has stalled. Has done it in the past as well. I do have a rough idle that comes and goes. I have replaced the spark plugs with Autolite coppers and changed the pcv valve.This wouldn't be a fuel pump thing would it? Anyone suggestions would help.
#2 Lately the transmission has been shifting pretty hard between 2nd and third gears. There is ahard thump when it does shift. I did notice that the tranny fluid is reading a little too full. Would a filter and fluid change possibly help with this? Are there any adjustments or maintenancethat a tranny shop can perform to maybe help with the problem before it's too late. Thanks for any input.

I would clean out your throttle body with some Sea Foam and see if that helps at all. What does it idle at?

Have you ever flushed your tranny fluid and changed the filter? If not, I would definately start there!

You said bands can be adjusted. What exactly does this mean? Is this a very difficult or expensive procedure? Something else to add to the problem. My check engine light came on and it was an Evaporative Emission control code. I changed out the gas cap which seems pretty common with that code. I disconnected the battery to get rid of the light. This transmion issue seems to have started about the same time. My understanding is that some adjustment can be done through the computer regarding the tranny. Is it possible that there wasprogramming done to the pcm that disconnecting the battery would have reset.

You can reset the calibrated settings in the tranny, which it learns from your driving. Are you feeling any slipping in the tranny? Or is it just shifting a bit harder? If it's just shifting harder drive it nice now after disconnecting the battery and see if that will help. It probably will as the PCM adjust to your driving techniques. The bands can be adjusted but I would take it to dodge and have them check out the under the pan. They measure the piston distances for the band maximizing life of the tranny. You can do it your self but a specialist will probably be better. It costs around 200 bucks canadian for this to be done here. Flat rate, so a filter, 4 quarts of oil, remove the pan, adjust bands everything back in. Also did you check in neutral on flat ground? While running?

I am not noticing any slipping. I think that it is third gear that is shifting so hard. If I am crusing along at 35-40 mph and give it some gas it pauses a bit and than shifts really hard. Starting from a stand still the first few gears seem fine. It alsoshifts slow and hard from reverse to drive. Sorry, did I check what in neutral on flat ground? ATF level? Thanks for the post.
