Dakota Long Bed

RE: Dakota Long Bed
ANYWAY, all that aside. I'm trying to find a 6.5' bed for sale. I figure for what the insurance company gave me to take it to the shop, I can buy a new air compressor, a really nice air gun (any suggestions? - im looking at the DEVILBISS CVi Gravity Feed), enough paint to redo the front bumper, the bed, the rear trim pieces, fix some torn boots on the front suspension, and, oh yeah, the parts to fix it. PLUS, spray on a spray on bedliner and maybe get one of the tie-down systems off a tacoma.
Of course, this depends on a bed. Before I go salvage yard hunting, I wanted to try here, particularly to see if theres somebody with one that they don't know what to do with. I'm can pay 500 for good condition or considerably more for impeccable condition. Don't be afraid to tell me what you have even if (you think) its out of my price range.

When I got smack by a hit and run and mine did not look much worse than yours does, they said it was cheaper to replaced the bed than to repair the bed but it was hard for them to find a used bed in perfect condition once they did I was good to go....don't let the insurance rip you off....mine ended up being over 12K to have repaired, they found more issues once they did the tear down....good luck on your repair.
By the way mine is a 2004 SLT QC short bed if that helps.

RE: Dakota Long Bed
lil - i know what you mean about the insurance ripping you. They only gave me 650 for the bed and nothing comes close on car-part.com. Insurance only gave me $2400. I was acually wondering if I can't find a bed for the 650 if I can argue with the insurance or if a body shop has to do it for me. (which could prove bad if I'm not going to take it to one)
jk240sx - I live in Atlanta, GA.Tampa bay might be too far of a drive with the trailer I have to use for this. (it's an old boat trailer that my friend turned into a flatbed trailer, so the axles are far back which means a lot of weight on the hitch). But anyway, I've been checking on car-part.com and it looks like the good beds are closer to 1100 dollars.
The first step is to go look at the bed that the insurance adjuster found. He put the name of two salvage yards on the estimate. Does anyone know if I am not satisfied with the bed (even the insurance adjuster called it "insurance quality") how I go about contesting the estimate without a body shop?
