Poor man's ram air

RE: Poor man's ram air
ORIGINAL: HankL
Every back yard inventor wants to build a version of a ram air inlet.
Chance of making a real improvement: about 1 out of 20
No back yard inventor seems interested in building an improved version of an oil windage tray for the bottom end of the engine.
Chance of making a real improvement: 1 out of 3

RE: Poor man's ram air
For DIY people looking for a project:
stick a kitchen thermometer into your vehicle's AC vent with the AC blowing full blast. If all is well the air should be in the 40-45 degrees range.
Winter is coming. Outside air temperatures will soon be in the 40s in the mornings with late afternoon air temperatures in the 70s or even 80s some places.
If you plumbed your engine's air intake into your AC vents
would the gain in hp be more
than the AC compressor uses (about 6-12 hp)
Well with the change in the weather
and this online 'Interactive Highway dyno' created by the MegaSquirt creators:
http://www.bgsoflex.com/dyno.html
you could make runs in your vehicle at 40 degrees and at 70 degrees and find out if a modification would be a power gainer, and worth putting more labor hours into.
