Default buddy looking to get 03 dak

I have a buddy who is looking at getting an 03 Dak, extended cab, 4wd w/ a 4.7L

He is getting this vehicle for a few reasons, a winter truck, and also to tow his 97 Mitsu eclipse.

I told him that I have a very similar setup in my Durango and would willingly tow "my eclipse" around. So he's not too worried about that.

He is wondering if anybody has used a Dak to plow parkinglots?

He's looking for any general advice you fellow Dak'rs have.

Im sure the Dakota would plow parking lots you would just have to set it up to plow. Iv seen pictures of dakota's on here with plows mounted on them. (1st gen though.)

I would want to put a plow on my truck, but don't want to at the same time. The place where I work (apartment complex) We have to plow the lots using the company truck. Over time the truck's frame got bent up. It would be cool and convinient to have it on mine, but I don't want it to be damaged. Definately not worth for the 2nd gens in my opinion.

Thanks guys.

How well do you guys get traction in 2wd in snow? I don't have a big issue with my Durango, but I have about 800lbs extra right over the rear axle than you guys?are sand bag or 4wd necessary?

I have a plow on my '04 ext cab and it plows just fine I have a Curtis Hitch-n-Go unimount and thewhole unit is off and on in about 30 sec.I think it works just as good as my old full size did. As long as you don'tabuse it when your plowing and keep up on preventive maintence you should be fine.

Thanks again guys. How is traction in snow in 2wd? Is it necessary to carry weight or use 4wd with lets say 4 inches of snow? Just how tail happy is it in the snow?

It's a truck of course weight will help in the rear. but got 4x4 especially with a plow you will need it. The back end is really light. Those cement blocks from decks work good nice and heavy will take the load.

Chris.

One thing def get the v8 they are much better and get about same millage as a v6...

I'm pretty sure this thread has convinced him to get 4x4 and V8, either 4.7 or 5.2. I think he's come across a 4.7 for a good price
