I need some help, i know that i havnt been around alot in this forum but i was hoping that you guys could help me out.

this morning when i went to school my heated seats worked fine, but tonight on my way home i went to turn on the drivers seat(of course) and it did not heat up and when i look down at the switch to make sure it was on the light that should indicate that it is on high was flashing at me, flashing slowly like on for a sec off for 5 or more, any ideas on what to check, i looked in the manual and all it says is to have a certified technician look at it, useless, not going to pay somebody to fix it, but still want it fixed, any ideas would be great

P.S.i pulled the switch that is not the problem its been replaced and it didnt fix it

 

First, check fuse #22 in the junction block. This fuse supplies power to both the driver and passenger seat switches and well as supplying power to the heated seat module. If both the passenger seat element works properly, then you know the fuse is good. Also, disconnect the switch for the drivers seat and make sure that pin #3 (they should be numbered) has good ground contact. Check those and if those things are ok, I'll give you a couple of other things to check, but I have seen this problem a few times and it usually is a sign of a bad HSM

 

fuse is good, i replaced it, and the passenger seat works fine, what is the HSM???? and i will check the switch for a ground, i assume that you mean the pin 3 in the wire that the switch plugs into?

 

what does it tell you in the dak manual? I'd start digging thru it to see what it has to say about the heated seats.

 

I went alittle further into checking my information and here's what I found:
Assuming that power and ground to the switch is present, the high heat LED flashing on the switch is an indication that the driver seat has failed a diagnostic test. In other words, the heated seat module is seeing that the driver's seat heater element is either shorted out or the element is broken. All things considered, I would start by replacing the element.

 

I think Genosgarage.com sells retrofit seat heaters... maybe worth a look.

 

i will check that out, and yes i did read the manual, all it says is that if the led(s) flash to have it serviced by a certified techinician(my *** i will) so i decided to start looking for myself, and think that after 5 years the heat element broke, and its like 300 dollars for a new one so ill live w/o it, unless i can get the old one out of the seat and repair it, anybody know how to get the heating elements out of the seat???

 

its a great time , just grow a pair...heated seats are for ****** j/k, its not to bad, mine went out on my grand cherokee, took me about 3 hours a seat...

 

yea but i dont know how to get them out, im thinking of just switching the pads from the passenger seat to the driver seat and then trying to repair the broken ones and putting them back into the passenger seat? if somebody has directions for taking the seats apart i would appreciate a copy so that i can do it w/o damaging anything,


oh ps i was planning on just living with it until i found out that the heating pads can be removed, than i decided to try and fix it instead of wasting money on replacments, im too damn cheap to spend 400 a seat just for a little heat

 

I haven't ever replaced the ones on a durango, but some of the grand cherokees have a recall for their seat heater elements and I have done a few of those. For the most part, the seat cover snaps in with long black plastic clips and the lower seat cover will have a few hog rings to hold it on. The elements themselves use a kind of double sided tape to hold them to the foam seat cushion. Once you get the cover off its just a matter of peeling the element off and sticking the new one back in its place.
You could take the passenger seat heater out, but you would have to come up with a way to stick it back to the driver's seat because the tape will be useless once you take it off.
