Help me out guys, with some fuel mileage numbers. Mainly interested in the 4.7L & 5.2L v8's with auto & 4x4 but curious about the v6 auto 4x4's too. Posting you gear ratio, if you know it, would be great too.TIA!

2002 Quad Cab, 4x4, 4.7L, auto, 3.92...

12-13 town, 17-20 highway. I'm in Colorado so a lot of hills. Might be a little better in the flat lands...

Not a 4x4, but 4.7L with 5sp automatic w/LSD...I get just shy of 22mpg on the highway and usually 16-19 city depending on season. Usually better in the summer. I have K&N FIPK, Magnaflow cat-back, Fastman TB and Superchips running 87 octane performance right now.

Thank you to those that gave a real answer. That's the helpful info that I am looking for to find the suitable combination for me. I guess asking if the 4.7L gets better mileage than the 5.2L might be a better question. I'll be staying with the stock height and tire size +/- a width size or two. No 12" lifts or 36's for me. Actually the article on dropping a 4x4 appeals to me a lot.

Search .......what a novel idea. This isn't the first board I've ever been on and there's always that unthought of suggestion ... search. FYI, I searched numerous combinations of the gas mileage subject and what returned was mostly questions about problems causing poor mileage. I'm new here and I'm NOT trying to be a smart a$$ and/or pi$$ anyone off or get off on the wrong foot but "search" is about as helpful as no answer at all .....this board or any board. I guess my rant is that if someone has enough sense to get online and find a forum they probably can figure out "search". OK.........got that off my chest!

2003 quad cab 4x4 with 37,000 miles. 4.7L w/5speed auto. 3:55 open gears. i get about 13.5 -15 mpg city, 18 - 20 mpg on the highway cruising under 2000 rpm. would love to find a way to burn e85 or something, but i love my truck too much to get rid of it.

Gas mileage figures seem to be right in there with my F150 4.6L and these Dakotas are about as heavy as my Ford too. Good point is that that they can TOW about as much too. A magazine article I just read says it'll tow a 6,200 lb. trailer w/800 lb tongue weight. Smaller package with the capability of a full size ...... that's why I'm gonna try a Dakota. How's your towing experiences with a Dakota?
