CEL P0300
Greeting all, glad to find such a great forum, as a new dodge owner I am sure I will find a wealth of information on this site. Anyhow, here is the problem: Wife was out with the 2000 Dakota SLT 5.9 and came home saying it was running like $#%#, and the CEL was on. Did a change on the 02 sensors because I did not know what else to do; improved things somewhat, but still ran "rough". Bought a code reader today and am getting this:
P0300 (M) Multiple Cylinder Mis-Fire Misfire detected in multiple cylinders
Also getting misfire code in Cylinders 5,7,& 8.
Any suggestions on where to start? Thanks

first off what fuel are ya running?... i've seen the E85 type fuel kick alot of missfire codes and with the winter fuel out now and if it's warmer where you are at now yer prob jus mite be the winter fuel...
Everything I own always gets the same regular 87, usually Shell or Chevron, all comes from the same refinery anyway where we are, no ethanol or other blends. Been running it on the same stuff since we bought it in June of '06. Havenot filled up out of area since August.
i would start at the most obvious spot the spark plugs. Pull them take a look at them and replace them if need be. after that i would check the coils.
Thanks, guess it is a good starting point. What is my best method for checking the coils? As I have no idea of the age of wire set, guess I will do a replace there as well. Will also do a check on the vacuum lines at the same time.
I have checked the plugs, everything seems OK. Now being a stupid goof I thought I was pulling the PCV last night in the dark and managed to snap off the plastic breather tube connection on the passenger side valve cover instead.[:@]So guess I cannot really carry on for another day until the part shops open again on the 2nd. In the mean time would appreciate any input on the following:
MTN13 suggested I check the coils, would like to know the best way to do that.
The mechanics at work suggest I check for vacuum leaks by warming up engine, then run an unlit propane torch along line and listen for an increase in RPM. Is this a good idea? The boys are really only good for oil changes and flat tires, don't wish to blow myself up.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have been having the same problem with my 2001 v6 for about a year I and my brother have done a lot of playing around and the only other thing we can think of is the wiring harness for the injectors and the engine so we are looking into it. i will keep anyone updated who is interested

I get the same codes in my r/t every once in a while if I don't let it warm up a lil and just take off . Not saying its the same problem as youres but I would start at the plugs , plug wires , and dristributor rotor and cap .
hello hope i can shed some light and maybe get some info..
i own a 99 ram 5.9l., i too just started getting the check engin light w error code p0300.
could it be from a bad catalyctic converter, i know mine has been gettin worse and it soundls like the motor is be muffled more now and the exhaust sounds like it breathing threw a straw. since the check engine turned on
i did my plugs and wires about 8 months ago ,
but not the coil or distributer
runs like ish over 2500 rpm
motor has 155k on it
