May have lost power steering pump?
2001 Dakota, 4.7L auto, no tow package.
My truck was making a wierd noise at idle before the engine warmed up (this may be totally unrelated) sounded like a bearing was going out.
Was out being a jackass spinning cookies, went to drive away and had no power steering at low rpms. Serpentine belt is fine, no leaks, fluid level is fine. My guess is the only other option: the pump is bad.
I called a few parts houses and they gave me several options, with or without remote reservoir, and either 17mm or 18mm shafts. I called dodge, got the doge part number for my pump but they didn't have the specs I needed and the dodge part number did not cross reference at my parts store.

May be air lock in pump or steering gear. Flush pump by taking off the belt , and take offthe high pressure hose so you can catch fulid comming out of the pump, turn the pump by hand and keep adding fluid so it doesnt go dry. what ever you do DONT run solvent or any other light fulids in the pump, it must have regular fulid only.
