04 Dakota with 4.7, automatic 5spd trans.. Stock I was getting 14-16 city and 19-20 highway. I put ondual exhaust with a flowmaster 50 muffler, and a K&N air cleaner, and now get a consistent 16 city, and 22+ highway. I consider myself a conservative driver, " unless some bastard pisses me off". We live in the mountains, so city driving isn't often. Gas makes a big difference. Sunoco seems to run right throught the truck, as Gulf gets better mileage. We tend to get better mileage in the summer when they stop reformulating the winter gas. Doesn't seem great, but my other truck was an "Argh", FORD, and it got 8 city, and like 12 highway if you were real lucky.

I have the 2wd version and do mostly city driving and get 14 - 15 mpg. I changed my original plugs recently and will be interested to see what, if anything, that does. I have been running my tire pressure at 35 but will bump that up to 40 psi just for good measure. I was surprised that when I put my K & N FIPK on it actually hurt my gas mileage a little bit, but it idles way smoother.

I know of others who have said the K&N filter hurt their mileage to. Maybe with all the extra air going in, it can't get out the back with the factory exhaust ???

I have an '03 QC 4.7 2WD with 5sp autoand I get about 16-18 city depending on season and 21 highway. That's with a K&N FIPK, Fastman TB, Magnaflow Cat-back and Superchips programmer.

Spark plugs, tire pressure, size of tires, air filter, bad fan clutch, alignment, oil weight,O2 sensors, there are just a ton of things that affect mileage as I've learned on this forum. I am looking at changing out my O2 sensors next and getting a flowmaster exhaust to see if these help as well with mileage.
My wife says I drive like a grandpa and I've never gotten better than 17 mpg.

Sorry,I might have come off like an A-Hole, that was not my intenet. There are just a ton of things that affect mileage and I was trying to list as many as I could think of.
I understand, it is a truck with a V-8 so I don't expect to get 30 mpg, but when I hear people with the same set up as me getting several mpg's better it makes you try to get the same.

I was just wondering what to expect when we pick up the girlfriends tomorrow. I am always getting into doing this and that to anything with a motor to make more power and better gas mileage. I am new to the dakota's though so I dont know all of the little tricks to do to them that might make a difference. I will be putting on a high flow air filter and a flowmaster though I already know that. It only has 25,500 miles on it so I don't think I will need to do anything tune up wise on it yet. Unless I find out something is bad on it.
