What trans do I have?
Ok I bought my truck about 5 months ago. The guy I bought it from told me he replaced the trans with a jeep transmission, he thought it was a 45re. I originally had the 42re (i think). Now I got the numbers off the sticker thats on the trans...how can I find out for sure what trans I have? the trans tag should be attached below....thanks

Ok my question now is how much fluid does the A 500 hold? The reason I ask is that my pan has a slow leak and when I bought it from the guy he was adding a quart a month, since I have owned it I haven't had to add anything even though its still leaking. The fluid level is still very high but could it be that way since its got a different trans while using the same original dipstick?
I check it how the manual says...at operating temp let it sit for 30 sec. shift between neutral and drive I believe and put it back in neutral and then check.

I would just seal up the leak, simple to do:
Get under there, unbolt all of the pan bolts except one corner 1 (expect to get some on u) Support the other side once there is enough room to put a jack or something to hold it.
Now once all but the corner one are off. slowly undo the one bolt a little bit and move the jack to the middle and lower it a bit allow some of the corner to leak out. Now you have a pan full oil, either keep doing this or undo the bolt completely, and dump it would from the pan (balance or something on the jack. )
Get the appropriate oil, gasket and filter and just do the change while your add it. If you plan on doing a service soon after, maybe opt, for a tranny plug, you can buy ones to put in there, i should have done it on mine, but never got around to it.
