Default 45RFE shift problems

I'm having trouble with a 2002 dakota AWD 4.7 with 45RFE trans. At times it will sound like the trans slips when taking off, and it will go into limp mode, and the check engine light will come on.Ithas onlydone this before it reaches full operating temperature. If I really baby it until it warms up, it seems to work fine. Another problem I've had, is it has slammed pretty hard on a downshift at around 25 - 35 MPH, and go into limp mode immediately. In both cases, I can shut the engine off, and restart it, and it shifts fine. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

sounds like a seal leaking or something isn't working properly, since this is a full auto tranny and bandless, I would go to the deal or someone with a computer to check this out. You could always try some lucas to swell up the seals to let it hold off for awhile if this is problem, but that only helps for a bit.
