4.7 coolant change
I've read posts where others have changed the antifreeze, and had nightmareish results air locking their system. I took the cap off, thenloosened the drain plug on the radiator, and let it drain down. I thentook the two bolts out of the thermostat housing on the lower radiator hose, and pulled it off. I pulled the thermostat out, and let it sit for awhile to drain.I had a Prestone flush kit I had bought previously, and put it in and ran the hose through it for a few minutes, "engine cold".I put the new o-ring on the thermostat, "there is a notch you have to lign up in the o-ring with a notch on the thermostat". I then put the new thermostat into the housing, " there is also a notch on the o-ring that fits into a notch in the housing." I mixed the antifreeze with ditilled water that I bought in old windshield wiper solvent bottles that I flushed out. Chrysler says you can go with as much as a 70/30 antifreeze misture, and I wanted to mix mine on the high end. We live in the mountains, where it can stay -0 for weeks. I added it until the radiator was full, then started it with the cap off. I turned the heater on high, and let it run, adding additional coolant as it needed. Once I could see the thermostat opened Itoppped it off, then squeezed the upper radiator hose a couple times. When the air bubbles quit coming out, I topped off the resevoir tank, and put the cap on. I drove it for 10 miles or so, then topped the tank off again. Worked fine.
You understand that this thread is five years old.
