2002 Dakota 4.7?
I just bought a 2002 Doge Dakota 4.7L with 86k miles on it. I'm a ricer so hate me. I was wondering what kind of DIY mods there are for my truck. I was wondering what some other popular mods there are. The links in the pin topics don't work. I still think my CRX kicks ***.
- CAI
- Cam if you Can find one.
- Headers/Exhaust
- Intake?
- Throttle Body?
- Rocker Rollers 1.7 or so.
- All of these probably would add easy 150 hp is my guess... At the crank 100 rwhp about... 40 cam, headers 30-40 headers/exhaust, intake 25, rockers 30, TB 10-15 (Once done more mods the better), CAI 10
It adds up. But Im not sure if you will find it all for the 4.7, most of the mods are for the magnum engines...

"Cam if you Can find one
Rocker Rollers 1.7 or so"
varsis those mods would be for the LA style engines, not the 4.7.
the best bang for the buck would be 212 cams from KRC and getting a full exhaust due to the restrictive nature of the stock ypipe and 3 cats.... the 4.7 is a dual overhead cam engine. i know you'll just go out and get a bunch of stickers and put them on though.

if you decide your dakota has too much power, i'll trade you a bunch of NOS stickers for it.

I haven't looked at the truck closely yet. Tomorrow is my day off and I plan on looking a little more closely. Is there any intake baffles on the truck? My truck has full exhaust already. And no the truck dosent have to much power. My car has more and weights less. This thing feels like a slug which is why I want to add some power. I'm not going to slap decals or stickers on it; I'm more into sleepers.
first off, what do you mean by full exhaust? give some details about the exhaust when you find out. second, the air intake is just a regular run of the mill air intake you would find on any truck... some tubes and an airbox with a flat filter in it that goes directly in the throttle body. dont waste your time getting a cold air intake, it wont do you any good unless you've done mods that would require more air like cams and a bigger throttle body. check out http://www.thefastman.com/for good after market throttle bodies for the 4.7. the intake manifold is also very efficient and so are the exhaust manifolds. not really any need to change them unless you're boosting. and i'm warning you, do not expect big gains from what i've said above. you will definately notice a difference, but dont expect the truck to run 12's with just cams, TB, and exhaust. the 4.7 is an efficient engine, but it's a small V8. remember, there's no replacement for displacement.

Stroker kit! LOL. That is the next big step or get a hemi in there. Those 6.1's are killer. And they fit right in, just need to do a wiring job, and mounts. 6.1 isn't any bigger than the 5.7. Youd have a better truck than most people just with the 6.1 they are 425 hp at the crank. But that depends how serious you are about power, if I had a solid truck, and a 4.7 I would do a hemi drop, just because it's wicked. If I were keeping my current dakota id be getting the 5.9 which is a pretty good engine, and can modified good too.
Your best options, stroker kit for a fair bit if there are any available im sure you could find one or get a custom one made up. But by the time you spend money modding that one, you could have dropped in a 6.1L hemi and have more power stock.
