Default Exhaust advice: what is best?

I know this topic is beat to death on alot of forums but I am still in need of good advice. I have a 3.9 2000 dakota and I want opinions on what exhaust will give me maximum power and efficiency. I have researched multiple forums and found that exhaust for v6 is not as big of a deal as for v8's, is this true? Is an aftermarket exhaust on a v6 that much better than stock? Any input or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

One is better, but it's mostly about the sound in the end, you also want to keep a bit of back pressure unless you plan on doing a lot of mods to gain back some bottom end. Like a high flow cat and high flow muffler like magnaflow, were you can see right through is probably not your best option. But iv heard and see some good stuff about the cherry bomb vortex single in dual out. My friend has one it sounds good, esp on a v6 and a nice deep rumble. Sounds like a v8 But it's very loud.

I went into a muffler shop this weekend and talked with the owner, he automatically said flowmaster, but then when I said that I had the 6 and didn't want to sound ricey, he saidMagnaflow (which is what I was thinking to begin with) and when I asked what size pipe he'd use he said 2.5 or 2.25, but probably 2.25 to keep the low end (also what I was thinking) BTW, this is for a 1 in 2 out system. Then I'll probably throw on 3 inch tips and hope for the best. But first things first, I noticed a clicking/tapping sound coming from what sounds like my transfer case, gonna drop it off at a shop after work today and see if they can pinpoint it. I hope I don't need a rebuild, but 250,000 km's it might

i still dont understand why most exhaust shops suggest flowmaster when people say they want power. this is from a mustang forum and it is the third worst for horsepower.

I have the magnaflow on my truck it sounds not too bad, I can't really tell how it sounds because of my exhaust leak though lol.

like Varsis said, in the end, it is about sound. from what i have read, dodge has about as good of factory exhaust as you can get by spending hundreds putting new stuff on. i have read that in dyno tests that a 2.5 pipe and a good muffler is good enough and the gains are not worth the money you will spend. is a few hundred bucks really worth just a couple horsepower? to me it isnt. i think people get fooled into thinking they have alot of power because it sounds cool, and in reality, power wise its the same, it just seems more powerful because of the noise. also, i wouldnt take a mustang test and compare that to your dodge truck, it isnt the same type of vehicle and they are built totally different.

you can spend less than $100 bucks on a good muffler and spent the other 2 or 3 hundred on many other things to get much more bang for your buck
