Auburn Differential Upgrade Cost
I called a local shop to see how much it would cost to put an Auburn diff in my 2003 Dakota. I found some metal in there a few weeks ago and I'd like to get that dealt with.
I was floored when the shop told me that they estimated the cost to be around $2100 parts and labor!!!
Is it just me or does that seem high to anyone else?
If so, anyone know of a good shop in the LA area? The closer to the South Bay, the better...

i asked my mech. about a pos trac for my 01 dak 8.2 rear end. he said it would be about $1000. but he is a bit high on most stuf. i would think you could get done for 700 - 800.
also a auburn cant be rebuilt, when itwears out you have to toss it.
Just had mine rebuilt with a Detroit Tru Trac. $1380 out the door. Included finding/diagnosing the problem. Got the diff. from Randy's Ring and Pinion.com. Very professional people to deal with. That price included new pinion bearing, carrier bearings, etc.
So, from all accounts, that $2100 estimate is way too high... Correct?

i would definitaly say thats to much i got quoted 950-1000 for a complete rebuild of the rear. i wanted the auburn but the guy at the shop talked me into what he uses. he said he's been using them since he opened and has rarely had anything fail. i forget the brand name but he gets the parts from a performance shop. haven't gotten the truck back yet but i will this weekend coming up ill post up everything they did and the final cost. im in pa so i cant help you with shops but i would def look around at different ones.
