2004 DODGE DAKODA 4X4....JUNK!
you should still have some warranty on it. and it probly is a bad coil pack. has it been good for you up till now, and just finally took a crap on you?
NO, IT MAKES YOU LOOK MORE RETARDED. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS MOVE YOUR LEFT PINKY FINGER 1/16 OF AN INCH. PEOPLE WHO TYPE IN CAPS LOCK ALL THE TIME ARE AUTOMATICALLY IDIOTS.
Also, take it to a dealer, "mechanic friends" are never a good idea. My girlfriend's mom's "mechanic friend" tried to screw her over or really didnt know what the hell he was doing. Her car's guages were messing up, the guy told her it needed a new PCM for like 400$. I went out in the garage and disconnected the battery for an hour, cleaned up any ground wires I saw, and voila it was fixed.

ah just cuz you can't pay a decent mechanic to do preventive maintenance doesn't mean that all dodges are junk, you cant go to a drive thru wal-mart, jiffy lube ect, and expect it torun forever...its kinda like ur house, since you don't take care of it it will one day fall apart, then somebody like me will buy it for peanuts, make 100,000k off it when i fix it and resell it, how about you sell me Ur POS in ur words Dakod(t)a for a grand ill fix it up and sell it for 7k
Don't you love when people only post on user forums to complain. No content added, just a soapbox. These are the posts that are usually found on edmunds, MSN auto, auto trader, etc.
Nothing to see here folks.

imnothot- thank you
by the way, you shouldnt come on a dodge dakota forum, and say they're all junk, no one is going to like you. if you want proof that dodges are not junk, look at my pics. I have a 1988 dakota that has over 250,000 miles on it with the original engine and transmission in it, and it runs just fine. And FYI anytime you have a problem where it only happens sometimes, it's almost always going to be electrical. Which is why you probably have a bad coil pack. I didnt notice that before because i didnt take the time to read through your entire post. Usually if someone is typing in all CAPS LOCK, they only having something retarded to say.

FIRST JONNYMAGNUM, THANKS IM JUST TRYING TO GAIN SOME INFO. BEFORE I MAKE A MOVE AND DEAL WITH THE "BEND ME OVER" GUYS AT THE DEALERS WHERE I BOUGHT MY TRUCK. I FORGOT TO SAY, RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT MY "BRAND NEW"TRUCK ( NEVER USED) I TOOK IT TO THE CAR WASH AND THE SOME OF THE PAINT PEELED OFF FROM UNDER THE BACK FENDER WHEELS. I TOOK IT BACK WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND WAS TOLD THAT, THE PAINT WAS'NT UNDER WARENTY AND THEY WILL JUST GO BUY SOME SPRAY PAINT TO PAINT IT, BUT IT WILL JUST COME BACK OFF AGAIN. SO TO YOU WINK 2873, I DON'T CARE IF YOU DON'T LIKE MY CAPS. OR HOW I TYPE, BECAUSE YOU ARE WHAT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH AT THE DEALERS WHEN GO DEALWITH THEM. IT IS ALOT DIFFERENT FOR A WOMAN TO GO INTO A PLACE TO HAVE THEIR CARS WORKED ON. SO I REALLY DON'T NEED YOU BITCHING AT ME ABOUT STUPID ****, YOU SOUND LIKE MY EX !
AND IMNOTHOT- I NEVER SAID ALL DODGES ARE JUNK, I HAPPEN TO LOVE THAT TRUCK AND BOUGHT ITFOR STYLE AND PROFILE AND IF THE KIDS WERE FIGHTING THEY COULD'NT JUMP OVER THE SEAT AND I COULD BIFF THEM WHEN NEED BE! YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE HEARD " YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A CHEVY".
I MAY BE A WOMAN, BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON HEAR I MUST BE AS DUMB AS THE REST ON HEAR BECAUSE MOST THE QUESTIONS ARE ABOUT A PROBLEM SOMEONES HAVING WITH THEIR TRUCK ! I'M SORRY I DON'T HAVE $3,000 TO JUST HAVE AT IT AND GET IT FIXED.
LIKE I SAID, IF MY "BOZO" MECHANIC IS RIGHT ABOUT MY TRUCK, I THINK DODGE SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR NAME! NOT 4 YRS. 47,000 MILES AND TIME FOR A NEW MOTOR !
P.S. MAYBE I'M TYPING IN CAPITALS BECAUSE I'M YELLING AND PISSED ABOUT MY TRUCK ! SO DON'T GET YOUR NICKERS IN A TWIST !

There are several tests, inspections, etc. that can (and should) be done before a PCM is replaced (mainly because, more often than not, replacing the computer isn't the solution).
It is weird that this is happening on a low mileage, (relatively) newer vehicle. But, as anyone knows, sometimes things just don't have explinations. The vehicle that came off the assembly line right before yours might run 250,000 miles without any problems, while the one before that, its transmission might die at 30,000 miles.
I just replaced the transmission on my truck, than, as I took it for a test drive, found out the water pump was leaking bad (wasn't leaking anything noticeable before I started the transmission change). After replacing the water pump and going to start it up, the darn thing would turn over but wouldn't start. The timing chain broke.
Sometimes problems happen, and not necessairly a fault on anyones part. When was the last time you replaced your crankshaft position sensor? For those with the 4.7L engine, do you have a schedule you replace the coil packs on, those with the Magnum motors -- when was the last time you changed the coil "because it was getting old"?
If one of these parts go bad, you'll be stuck, and its not because you didn't do your maintenance, because, guess what, it's not something that you replace reguarly (and is not a time or mileage change item, like oil and spark plugs are).
I, personally, am just tired of people making fun of people because they have problems, and its just sooo simple to say, "oh, well, its your fault for not doing maintenance." What, did you happen to see her truck? Is she your neighbor and you know how she treats it, and you know when she takes it into the shop and what she has changed? Because, if you do, thats pretty freaky, and I think you need to find something else to do with your time.
So shes mad that her truck had a hiccup, nothing to become ******** about because she wasn't super happy over the situation.
Anyways, Dakoda girl, as others have said, call the dealer and ask about the warranty (call corporate if they give you the typical run around). I, also, am pretty sure Dodge had the 7/70K warranty back than, not the 3/36K.

Customer service is always fun to deal with, for anything. I've found the best way to deal with someone who can't help you is to just ignore it and call back until you find someone who has enough pride in their job to answer your question.
take the truck to a god damn professional, what kind of idiot looks at an engine and just assumes it's a bent valve? that hardly ever happens unless you're running the engine past redline or you are starving it for oil.
