Looking to get one for my dakota. Its a 98 V8 5.2L. Just curious about what brands to get, and in particular that are worth the money. Heard alot about K&N. Also, i've heard that they make a difference in the sound of the truck. Is this true? And I was just looking on ebay and they have some CAI for about 50-70$, would these CAI be worth it, or are they just junk? For a decent intake, how much would I be looking at?

bout as usefull as a go fast sticker...jsut do a drop in K&N, you'd be miles ahead on ur $ per HP

 

i got the k&n FIPK 2 on my v6, doesnt do much, kinda helps with pulling some hills, thats about it for me, and she whistles like a turbo, but the engine warms up, shes quiet

 

I just put an AFE intake on mine. I like it because it has a dry filter that you was with soap and water and doesn't require oil. As far as power, it isn't really noticable. If I could got back in time, it would have just gotten the dry drop in filter.

I looked briefly at aFe filters (http://afefilters.com/oereplacement.htm), but they appear to be oiled, like a K&N. Yours is not oiled? Their website says that the filters are washable and reusable, but doesn't provide details. Do they not have to be re-oiled?

 

I disagree... they are awesome, as long as you get one with a heat shield. You have the choice of changing the filter size to change who the motor runs (low end vs top end, bigger = top end). I went to a 6x9 round filter and had much better performance above 2800 rpms, lost just a tad on the low end though but it didnt seem to hurt mileage enough for me to care.

 

I have a drop in K&N and im very happy with it. I noticed a difference in throttle responce and it does make it sound a bit more aggresive (not like an exhaust would tho). I guess it just depends on what you want. But my $.02 is go for a drop in.

They have the oiled ones which are blue, and then they have the Pro Dry-S which is white and does not need to be oiled and does not need any special chemicals for cleaning. They make a drop in for the Pro Dry-S too. You have to go to the AFE site and select your year, make, and model.
