gettin rid of dakota
PO= previous owner
on an inline 4 cylinder car you dont have "headers" you have a header because there is only one cylinder head so you get one header. what im saying is, the previous owner already wasted all their money on stuff that wont gain you anything except very minimal, now you wont have to do that.
if you REALLY want mileage, get a motorcycle, depending on where you live you might only be able to ride it half the year but it's worth it. Even my harley wide glide gets 45 mpg city/highway, and thats with a big 88C.I. v-twin or 1450CC's. i ride it everywhere in the summer, it really saves alot of miles on my 01 dak. Not to mention theres nothing quite like going down the road with a nice exhaust listening to that v-twin scream.
im not really sure of what imnothot is saying either, from what i can make out of it he had a cavalier and he blew up the transmission.

My ex had a Cavalier, those things are biggest pieces of **** you could buy. About the only way you could do worse would be buying a Geo Metro or a Festiva, I'd keep looking you can definitely get something better.
My grandparents-in-law have a Cavalier...2004 I think. It wasthe last year they made them before switching to the Cobalt, whenever that was. It hasn't ever been to the shop or to the dealer, and has been very reliable for them. As with any used car, the purchase is a risk, and people's experiences with cars vary greatly from person to person. You'll hear people say that their Dakota was a pile of crap and they went to Brand X. You'll hear other people say that their truck from Brand X was a pile of crap, and they bought a Dakota instead.
Go drive it and see if you like it. If you don't get a "warm fuzzy" about it, don't buy it. If it feels right to you, go for it.

ok...the next time in there at teh lot ill see about a test drive i fiugure that the previous owner had dumped alot of money into it and i see that it wont need alot of work i could be wrong
Another thing to think about, with that list of mods there is a very good chance that the car was driven hard which means more wear and tear thus more chance for things to go wrong. The biggest thing that gives me the impression it was ragged on is the rebuilt engine, why was it rebuilt?
as a general rule of thumb you never want to buy a car where the engine was rebuilt because you dont know who rebuilt it. it might take a crap on you and need another rebuild or another new engine. Look for stuff like writing with a marker on the engine, that means it came from a junkyard.
Its up to you but im just saying, i would NEVER pay that much for a car with a rebuilt engine. If you could get it for so cheap that it wouldnt really hurt you if the engine blew, thats another story.

welll i went to a junk yard adn found a 2.4L pontiac with a 5 speed engine and i can put it in the engine and tranny is about 600 and i have a car for 650 and i think that will be a good car i used to own it and i sold it rite befor the engine blew....soo im gonna see if i can buy it bac for 650 the car was solid at 206,000 miles the brakes were good the rear pistons were replaced and the shocks were good that car was solid except the engine soo if i can get a new/used engine with low millage cheap im goin with that it will be my lil project car for later mods
