gettin rid of dakota
my mom is moving bac to the town that my dad and i still live in and i have to live with her for the time being.(untill i go to colleg next year) soo i was thinking of getting a 4 banger for gas millage. im looking into a 97 eclipes ex http://www.mad-psi.com/forsaleimages/gsx1.html looks alot like this but a candy red. its a 5-speed 17 drop ion wheels, 2 inch drop springs (optional) and somewhat good tires. i was thinkin of gettin it for cheap and converting it to where it has the gsx motor (turbo) im asked the guy and he said about 1700 for the car and i found the motor i want on ebay for about 1500 and it comes with a 3 year warrenty....the car was in an accident and it hit another car at about 35 he said and the front bumer is gone and the core support will most likely be fixed or replaced what do you guys think???
the mileage on those eclipses isnt that great...a friend of mine had one. if you can afford it, id keep the truck and buy a beater that runs good just for commuting. there are alot of older toyotas out there in the 1500 dollar range that get great mileage and a maintained toyota will run forever. i had an 85 celica that had almost 300,000 miles on it and it ran excellent, it used a little oil but other than that it was perfect, and i got around 27-28 MPG in it
yeah i'd say for what you would spend and all the better mileage you would get especially with the turbo it wouldn't really be worth it but hey its obviously up to you and if you think it would be good id say go for it.
what is the millage??? and what would it cost for someone to install teh motor for me cuz i have no idea about 4 bangers oh and a second vehical ins't an option mom says i cant have 2 unless the other is motorcycle
mileage on a dakota 4cyl? 20city/25hwy

well its gonna be decent compared to a V8 truck but compared to a n/a 4 banger its gonna be like 5-10 mpg less i'd say. my buddy is getting 18-22 with his 1.8t right now but thats with a bad 02 senser he said it gets like 24-28 average when the 02 sensor is good. if your responsible enough and won't kill yourslef i'd say keep the truck and get a small bike like a 250 or something to cruise around and get bad *** mpg.
I'm out of college and my mom still won't let me get a motorcycle[8D]
J/K...but yeah man be careful on 2 wheels...I like the Japanese economy car idea myself. My buddy had an '91 Nissan Sentra when we were in college that was a 4-sibling hand-me-down car, and was still running when he sold it around graduation.
Not to tell you what to do with your money, but buying an old turbo for the express purpose of modding...yet doing it "for mileage", don't really jive. Buying a car for mileage implies you're trying to save a buck (smart move for college), but making it a money pit...and having it torn apart all the time...is gonna cost you in the end. I'd get a clean Civic or Corolla or Sentra that drives straight and doesn't burn oil...rolls on $45 tires...etc etc...having a decent car...AND money?! That's livin' large in college my friend.
