Lighter Flywheel Option Available...? Bad idea...?
So, if I do decide to change my clutch on my own, instead of having my old flywheel re-surfaced, is there a lighter or "better" flywheel that I could just buy and put in as an upgrade? I have to say, I've never really considered "Souping up" my truck, but if I can put some better parts in there while I've got it apart, I'm all for that!
...besides, it would be far easier to just have a new flywheel ready to installinstead of having to wait for a machine shop to cut it.

well my buddy had a lighter flywheel on his honda...yes i know...but anyways he said it ruined the driveablility on it. he said it was great for racing it but he rarely did that so i would say its a bad idea unless your only using your truck on the track.

There are a few benefits that I'm considering but if there are drawbacks, I'll be a little hessitant. There is the logistical dilema of having my truck apart in pieces while I'm waiting for the flywheel to be machined. If I can get a little better performance and have a little easier time intalling it, then it's worth it, I suppose (as long as longevity and/or durability aren't effected).
I'd like to try to wrap this whole thing up in a day.

I would not put a lighter flywheel on a daily driver. As stated above, the flywheel is there for engine inertia and balancing, to some extent. The engine will NOT drive as good. The engine would rev faster, but it'll also slow down faster ,and it'll just feel clunky. I would absolutely recommend against changing the flywheel.
