Default I had to share this

dealership story

I brought my 2000 qc 4x4 w/ 5.9 to my local dealer for a tranny leak and eratic shifting. They get back to me and explain the leak is due to a rotted thru tranny pan and will replace. The shifting problem is diagnosed as needing a complete flush and fill w/fresh fluid. Mind you this truck is under an extended service contract, the pan is covered but the flush will not be.
So it gets done I pick up the truck and don't make it a mile away and from a start the tranny grumbles like when you hit a rumble strip on the highway. I go back and get the tech, take him for a ride he says the torque converter is slipping and they claim toreplace thetorque conv. and going to do a valve body job.
Turns out because of the service contract Chrysler says just replace the tranny with new and torque conv. as well. So you think sweet right well I get the truck back & again same thing I bring it right back. Two days go by they tell me they don't know to fix it.
Two more days later it's fixed. They had to call a technical support line to find out they never added the required friction modifier to the new fluid.

So how is it a specialist or anyone in the shop for that matter does not know you need to add 4oz's of this simple solution?
And if you think about it they probably replaced the tranny for no reason cause you knowthey did not put the additive in the first time after the flush on the original unit.

Any way I am not complaining about the new tranny cause now this truck is freaking sweet!
Just thought it was a funny dealership story to share.

My friend took his jeep to the local dealer (sells dodge and jeep) and they didnt mess up or screw him but they treated him like they where his only option. If i remember right its was something simple like a sway bar bushing or something of that nature. Im glad i can trust my mechanic, cause my local dealer sucks and I wont go there for any reason. Ill go to manchester, like 30min or so away, for any dealer needs.

But thats pretty sweet you not a new tranny out of their stupidity.

Are you saying that the tranny takes a friction modifier? I thought the rear diff (if it has L-slip) on the 4X4 took it and that was it? If that is the case I don't have any in my trans either. What trans do you have?

You would think the mechanic(s) would test drive the vehicle after they "fixed" it also why would they even present you with your vehicle if they KNEW something was not right.

No.......... I did not miss type trans for diff. [sm=icon_beat.gif]
I have a brand new tranny under my truck not a differential.
The receipt clearly states the technician's dilemma and how he called tech support which claims a torque convertor shutter or slippage is a common occurence after a full flush unless the friction modifier is added.
Hey I drove it & it sucked..... they claim to put in an additive and the truck shifts like it is brand new. It works for me.

To answer another question I am not exactly sure of the model #'s but I think it is an R45 4 speed

yah that's bizare cause even the dakota manual we used to have off the site here states the friction modifier is for the diff. i added to mine and works great in the diff but there's no mention for the tranny. i think maybe they fixed it some other way and maybe just said they added some additive to fix it. rather then admit a mistake in some other way. maybe they never put any fluid in it at all ! lol. wouldn't suprise me. anyway good to hear its work'n good.
