Default PCM Question - Will a 97 2WD PCM work on my 97 4x4 - both are 318 Auto

Anyone know if the PCM's are interchangable. I have a lever for the 4x4 on the floor which would seem to be mechanical. Will it work

According to the PCM schematic on Alldata (for a '97 Dakota), there are no 4x4-related inputs or outputs in the PCM. So it appears that you would be good to go there. You are correct in that it's all mechanical.

I went to 2 chrysler dealers. One Mechanic said it wouldn't hurt to try saying it may work. The second mechanic said it would not work as they are 2 different drivetrains. So I'm in a bind. I have found two 2wd PCM's and 0 4WD PCM's in the city I live in both at $100 bucks. I'd probably have to get it flashed as well for my truck. Chysler has found a new one in British Columbia at a price of $695 plus they would have to program it as well for another 100. What to do, what to do?
