New 5.9 R/T Owner
I've dreamt it since it rolled into production. I was nearly green with envy when I rode in my buddy's R/T back in 2000.
Now, after a LOOOOOOOOONG wait, I've got one!
I wasn't gonna go for it initially because the wife and I were looking for a fuel-efficient replacement for the '08 Caravan (yeah, we're at the opposite end now LOL). Honestly, though, in city driving the Caravan only gets about 16 mpg on a good day, and a full tank of 87 octane runs close to $70, so we're not *too* much worse.
On top of that, we were about $12,000 upside down on the Grand Caravan, and had a Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 we never drove because we could never afford the maintenance. Sooooo, after a long talk with the wife, much negotiation, and a lot of talking(the sales guy and I had some pretty good conversations), we negotiated the deal for around $16,244.95, both the Caravan and the Ram 1500 traded, and now we're down to one vehicle and a motorcycle.
The wife loves it. I LOVE the truck. The color also matches the 2008 Kawasaki Versys we have in our stable
.
I'll post pictures soon. I'm absolutely thrilled to have it though.
(On an interesting sidenote, my wife and I first met 02/15/1999. The truck's date of manufacture? 02/1999 (!) )
Coming out of the Dodge 1500, I'm pretty well rehearsed with everything I had learned on that side of the forum. The plenum plate mod will be a little easier on the back as I'm not going to be climbing in/out of the engine bay! I've also looked at the transmissions offered by APS Precision Engineering and will be getting one of those eventually. I've got a whole laundry list of parts this truck needs, but overall, I'm happy to get myself out from a pile of debt under the Caravan and into less overall debt with this truck.
Besides, we ditched the minivan for a hot rod! If gas ever becomes an issue we've got the bike, too.
