fair enough, to be honest i hate ricers too. Those guys are jokes, i can blow them away in my 3.4L alero which is completely stock. But i do like the look of the underglow lights...

the 3.9 is a bit slow if you put bigger tires on. I found mine way to slow which is why I have the 5.9 now. I am turning it into a 4x4. Solid axles soon...
If you are somewhat good with tools you can easily put the 5.9 in. (I did it almost by myself first engine removal ever.)
Im in canada right now. The 3.9 engine never broke on mine, it's sitting in the garage with 206k km's. The 5.9 has 170. both work good.
If you regear the 3.9 it will pull a lot better though. If you can get 3.92 gears youll enjoy it much more.
Take the truck for a drive, floor it. Make sure it shifts good. Watch the 2nd gear shift. Make sure it's smooth. The bands sometimes go in the tranny. Engine should run smooth. You may hear a slight rocker tick on the engine, this is normal. But nothing obscene for noise.

hi everyone I'm a 17 yr old high school student looking for my first truck
I've joined this forum because i saw a 1999 Dakota sport in my local classified that caught my eye for only $4000 neg. it has the 3.9L v6 with just over 201,000km on it (yes im canadian so thats about 124 900 miles...eh...). I has had about $2000 in modifications to it including:
-3 month old BFGoodrich all terain tires
-2 week old dual Magnaflow cat back performance exhaust
-Pioneer deck
-window tinting (20% front, 7% back)
-neon blue under glow lighting
-Lund roll pan
-bed liner
-Grill inserts
The guy bought it as a project vehicle for a quick turn around sale so he has only owned it for 8 months. I'm just wondering what you guys think of this and also i'd like some info on these trucks, none of my friends have owned dakotas though many have rams (most 1500). So if any one can give me some tips on what to look for when i go to see and drive the truck, also what kind of mileage can i expect? my current car (2002 olds alero) only gets 18 mpg with a 3.4L v6 so i'm not expecting much.
Thanks,
Dave
