crazy suspension idea
you can switch out rear-ends, bigger tires on a muscle car and you can get it to hook up fine,in a car,
the R/Ts are extremely lighter in the rear, thats the problem, not enough down force, and a truck suspension, you can spends moths trying to get your leafs to work. trac bars and all, but it will handle like a drag racer, and will be extremely rough for daily use
the best way to upgrade would be to go coils, drag or track.
i do think the dakotas suspenion is far better than most other trucks out there.
but its still a truck

you dont have to spend mo on leaf springs. like i said do it the way chrysler says. years ago chrysler put out a book called the white book, it had ALL the info you needed. you kids can try to dismiss the old man all you want but i wouldnt tell you something if i didnt know it was right. sounds like you are trying to out guess yourself if it takes mo to sort out somthing. and a mopar set up right does NOT need trac bars. been there done that bought the tee shirt

sorry moe, but the old leafs may rock, trust me, i have seen mopars with stock susp. stomp on others with beefed up susp.
but the newer suspensions, are built to cost less and function differently.
im not trying to say you are wrong, but trying to put the information into context.
coils and leafs do have there own separate strengths, that is the reason for swaps.
was this white book actually published? might be something to add to my collection,

hey batman are u on dak-dur? Iv been talkin to a bunch of guys on there but ill just try to sum this up quick cuz im thread jackin i had really expensive rims they are now smashed and so is a control arm insurance is paying for it all, i wana lower my truck and get new rims im pretty much decided on DJM 2" control arms and a hanger kit in the rear I have an 03 dak R/T on 22" rims, 28" overall height. I do plan to do a full bag job this winter or maybe next year depending how money comes and goes. reason im going with the arms now is they are basicly free and my truck sits like a "donk" right now and i dont like it. question is do you think this will work ok? it a temp fix and like i said insurance needs to replace my C arms anyways so why not lower it at the same time, u seem to know what ur talkin about so i just need a lil more info before i go out and order all my new stuff thanks man. sry to thread jack!!!
so i really want coils instead of leaves in the rear of my R/T. my idea was this: leave the shocks where they are. take off the spring perch's from a JGC (ZJ) and weld them on to my axle and frame. then measure for springs. the only thing i can think of is a problem with axle wrap. what do you guys think?
Why do you want to get rid of the leafs? It's going to cost you a lot to make this kind of change. If you want to limit the axle wrap install a set of traction bars or better yet "Caltracs" (www.caltracracing.com).
lets just say the differnce is night and day, shall we?
CV joints on independent suspension axles are far from reliable compared to solid live axles... our real axles can handle a large amount of torque without worry
