so heres that deal....my friend has an 01 ranger with the 4.0L SOHC Auto 4x4 and the mods are K&N CAI, turbo tube dual exhaust(larger glasspack), off road TA's tires...

mine is a 4.7L 2wd and the mods are CAI, strait pipe exhaust(not cat or muffler), and 275 45 r 20 tires auto ......i think i mught put my stock rims and tires on to get the tires to rotate faster(there slicks neways)........

i was in his truck when he raced his dads truck and its a 99 f150 5.4 and the ranger has him off the line.....do i have a chance?

 

i think you do have a chance if you can get a good start at the line and dont have any wheelspin. and as for i would use what ever tires are soft enough to give you more grip and may want to think about lowering to tire psi down like on the drag cars.

i think your smoke him. Dakota's are fast with the v8 esp. And you got 2wd and not 4wd.

 

hell i beat a 4x4 ranger 4.0 auto in my 3.9... you've got him easily. I'll even show you proof, the link is to track times, my name is Ryan Winkelman BTW you can see me on there. I came in 2nd in the truck/van class that night and it was only like the 2nd time i ever raced. Just to clear things up, I actually lost the race because my truck got hot and slow so i was way off from my dial in time, but my 1/4 mile was faster than the ranger.

YESSS!!! Post your results!! You should beat him as long as nothing goes wrong. I ended up about two car lengths back from a 4.0 ranger with my V6.

I gave up racing him now until i put 15's back on but my buddy with a 4.7 is waiting to leave the same time as the 4.0 guy in the thread. if that happens before you race i'll post his results!

you should have him weight reduce as much as possible, 5.4's aint got **** so i'm sure the 4.0 isn't much faster even tho rangers are lighter, i raced a 5.4 and if i wasn't so worried about missing 3rd like the first race I woulda smoked his *** before i hit the top of 3rd then 4th and that was before the hurst, rebuilt rearend and superchips heres a vid of my race versus the 5.4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zfFXC3b2u8 like i said i had a real ****ty launch then slow shifted 2nd and 3rd so i didn't miss then with an auto you should be golden.

ok thanks for the imput...he says hes gonna get me off the line but hes got no top end....so next time were out ill see about videoing it

 

yeah i haven't talked to that kid in a while haha i need to get another vid though of my truck runnin up through the gears with the superchips on performance tune if i can ever get it to not ping...im gonna use up all my 87 on the way home from school this weekend then fill up with 93 back home and see if i can get it to work on performance mode on the way back up to school sunday without pinging. good luck you'll take him rangers aint got **** lol and its a ford
