Default Issue getting started.. well sorta

I have noticed after letting my truck sit for awhile, it seems to be hard to start. If I start it up in the morning it takes a bit, if it sits for maybe 1 hour it starts up fine but if it's a few hours it takes a bit to start id say I have to hold the key on for 5-6 seconds. I used to start up like butter. Any ideas? and what do you think bad alternator? Or fuel?

Thanks
Chris

it's brand new. I am thinking the alternator... I have a newer one sitting around, might switch that up. But only happens after sitting for a bit maybe I got a dud? It starts and turns the engine over fine it just takes a bit to catch.

it's possible, run the truck and see how many volts it's putting out (take the multimeter and connect it to the battery terminals and see what the meter says, you should know this) with everything turned on: heater, radio full blast, lights, etc. thats the backyard way of testing it. then go from there

Yea, maybe. I don't think there is anything wrong though. It seems to start fine, just takes a little bit longer, and it doesn't hesitate.

well, leave a battery charger on the battery over night on a trickle charge. i was having similar issues last year when it was frigid up where i live. charged the battery once a week, never hesitated to start. all the alternator does is put a surface charge on the battery, unless you're going across the country with the truck constantly. cold temps also slow down the sulfuric acid reaction within the battery, preventing it from producing electricity. to me it sounds like it the battery needs a good charge

just wondering, what amps are required for starting up our trucks in cold weather? (i.e. 0-30 degrees)

Im not sure but the battery that i have is rated at 920 cca, so shouldn't be any probs there. Yea I am considering battery or the priming of the system, but the pressure should stay there. None the less it starts, so maybe I have a small leak somewhere along in the line...

I will have to check it out.
