straight pipes are illegal, and they can retrofit any muffler given special brackets/mounts, etc. the stock exhaust pipe diameter is either 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" outside diameter: should be the outside diameter, not exactly sure. whatever pipe diameter you request, is the the size inlet and outlet you will need. you will most likely do a cat-back exhaust system, so whatever the stock pipe size is 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" will be the inlet inside diameter size for the muffler. outlet diameter will be based upon either you want to retain factory size diameter or go up in size, no more than 3 inches recommended. if you're doing a 3" inch pipe are the the muffler, keep it a single exit, if you want dual, go with 2 1/2" pipes.

what you can do is go to an exhaust shop and they can tell you some of the differences as to what is out there, then look up on youtube and see what you like and if they are cheap enough, have them do a custom designed exhaust. thats what i did and i have never looked back. that way i was able to have my tips turned like this:

Def go to a shop and have it custom done. They can do anything and if you buy a muffler and tell them what you want it should be pretty cheap. All they need is some pipe and weld it up.

Thanks guys, but when you say go to a shop and have it custom done, do you also mean a custom muffler, or get a brand name muffler and have them make all the needed pipes??

And if you mean brand name muffler, should I buy it there you say, or buy one online and bring it in for them to custom install?

Thanks

Jim

So from what i have gotten from what someone posted up was that "some will take your parts that you supply and some will not it all depends on the shop" hope this helps.
And everyone that has posted up this forum really helps because i am thinking of doing a custom system on mine side exits on each side one pipe from each manifold. I am going to keep the stock diameter.

exactly what you said, the best thing to do is go and talk to them in person and see what they can do for you. i got an off-brand, (don't quite remember it) but IMHO it sounds better than the name-brand stuff.

Right on, thanks a ton guys, custom sounds like the way to go. The only "muffler shop" around here is Meineke. Whatya guys think, can I talk to those guys? Will they do a custom job, I know there business is in auto maintenance in general not just mufflers.

Thanks

Jim

Hmm... they might be able to do it but chances are they will not be able to do exactly what you want. Let me explain, in Colorado, it is illegal to alter your exhaust in any way shape or form. I had to go to a place where the guy really didn't care about the laws and did exactly what i wanted to. You could try to google it or go there and see what they are willing/able to do for you but sometimes they have to stay legal (due to corporate rules n' stuff)

i went to meineke for a quote on a cat back on my truck. it was around $500, i walked out of there laughing. you're better off finding more of a private exhaust shop.
