Default Exhaust questions?

Hey everyone, well I've officially caught the "mod bug" and I'm loving it!! Its waaay satisfying doing cool things to your truck and doing them yourself!

So I was looking at flowmasters website and it seems they dont have any exhausts listed for an 04 dodge. Anyone know which flowmaster sounds best and what size I should look into?

Secondly, can it be installed yourself or do I have to take it into a Meineke type place? I'd rather do it myself, but if I cant I will take it in.

I have done a search already and didnt come up with anything on the 04 3.7L dakotas.

Thanks

Jim

not sure if they make any for the 04 but my guess is that it would work most things are left out for the 04's but if you got a kit I wouldn't see why you couldn't do it yourself if you have a sawzaw to get off the old exhaust pipes...as far as flowmaster they don't flow very well i'd go with something more free flowing like magnaflow or hooker aerochamber...they sell kits on ebay that come with flowmaster's and other mufflers for a lot cheaper price not sure how they fit though.

you can do it yourself with the pre-fabbed stuff from napa or other auto parts stores. flowmaster doesnt have a do it yourself kit for the dakotas. plus some exhaust shop maybe cheap enough to custom make one for you. i suggest you go on youtube before you commit to flowmaster, and listen to some exhaust clips. i know off hand dynomax and maganflow make exahust kits for the 3.9 and 5.9 v6s, thats from 01-03. still cheaper to have a shop make you a single in/single out exhaust set up.

Thanks guys for the responses! I really dont know why these aftermarket parts companies left out the 2004's! Its starting to tick me off!

Playmaker and Fox, I will check out the Magnaflow's, thanks for the tips on the flowmasters.

So Fox, your saying the shop can custom make an exhaust that will growl like the magna and flowmasters??

Man, I have the itch to just get rid of this truck and get an 05, it seems they dont make anything for my truck!

Thanks

Jim

i'd say get a muffler and tips and get it custom done...better fit and usually less expensive than a kit plus install. thats what i did and i'm always suggesting my muffler...hooker aerochamber it sounds really good

yea dont sell for an 05 the 3rd gens (05 +) also lack aftermarket support if you want aftermarket support your better off w/ a v8 as well not too many people put money into a v6

it depends on the muffler used. that will enhance the sound. and bigger pipe generally means it's louder. i got single in/dual out magnaflow on my 3.9 v6. sounds like a v8 only when the engine is under load ( pulling a load or itself up the highway), that way it keeps a deep constant drone. an exhaust shop can custom bend you tubing, and eitehr supply you with a muffler upon request or ask them ahead of work if you supply the muffler will they install it. some places, like monro muffler and brake wont install your parts, even if you bought them from napa and they buy a majority of their parts from napa, go figure? i know flowmasters sound raspy but, here i found a few clips of the 3.7.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Th3n0mJHoh0 straight piped, cat back i presume.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RVZ236c7xU heres a 3rd gen with the 3.7 with a flowmaster, going to sound the same, and the truck is accelerating, give you a good idea what it will sound like versus just revving at a stop.

Thanks a lot guys, and thanks Fox for the links! So you guys are saying to get *any* muffler and have it installed? I checked flowmasters site and they have different sizes like 2" 2.25" 3" , Your saying that the shop can install any of those to my truck??

Also, what kind of muffler should I get if they are magnaflows, seems like they dont make any for dakotas, will any of them fit?

Are straight pipes legal?

Thanks guys

Jim
