Dont waste money on building it up. Just turbo it for a stock app and be done with it.

or just do a v8 swap.

but if you really are looking for perf.

Same old - same old = Headers, intake, heads, cam, just like a v8 but you will need parts for a v6. Not hard to find, craigslist seems to have alot of cheap-0 reworked v6 heads.. if i had one i would buy them.

a v8 TB is your best and cheapest bet right now though. 50mm TB off a 318 or 360.

dont even bother unless you plan on having the block bored and changing the pistons. there was at one time a stroker kit available for the 3.9, but only a few people actually got one because they were so expensive. there is no aftermarket crank, only a very few choices for a cam and all of them require a spring change.
in all honesty, comming from someone who knows... just get a k&n drop in filter, a v8 tb and a free flowing muffler, the only other thing worth the money is 1.7 rockers, which i dont have. i honestly dont think there is a tuner available for 97's and they're not worth it anyway.
another option is re-gearing, which is what i'm planning on doing. shorter gears will give the illusion that your truck is faster. i plan on 4:10's and an aftermarket LSD, mostly for the LSD because im sick of spinning my one tire in the middle of the road and not going anywhere in a snowstorm.

I can tune your truck with SCT (not superchips). Makes nice power gains on a v6. Got quite a few happy customers. PM me for details.

You can read about sct at www.sctflash.com

Supported Vehicles:
• '03 - '05 SRT4 Dodge Neon • '96 - '03 Non ETC Magnum V-8 Trucks
• '96 - '06 SRT10 Dodge Viper • '04 - '06 HEMI Vehicles
• '04 - '06 SRT10 Truck

the website does not say anything about 3.9's, i would like to see some proof that it will work before people on here start buying them for their 3.9's.

"Who are they for? These include all OBDII V6 & V8 Magnum trucks from 1996-to date. Including all 3.9 / 5.2 / 5.9 as well as the 5.7 & 6.1 Hemis®.
We are also able to provide tuners for all of the Hemi® cars as well"

ok, hughes says they will work with the 3.9.... here's the question i have. I know the sct tuner can adjust spark timing, fuel curves and other things (which is good, because now we wont have to things like the crank sensor mod just to get some timing). i realize it can also probably raise the rev limiter and top speed limiter. however, can it adjust shift points? or is this something that can only be done by adjusting the tv cable? I would love for my truck to shift at 5200 RPM's at WOT, but dont want to screw around with the tv cable and risk making it worse than it is now. My truck suffers terribly from the "doggy when warm" problem. if its hot outside my truck is a complete dog, but if its a crisp 40 degrees outside my truck can make a 16 second pass. I've contemplated doing the IAT mod, but dont feel like drilling a hole in my intake and buying another sensor when i dont really have to. would the SCT tuner fix the doggy when warm problem? if it will... you've got me sold on it.... that is if you can do it cheaper than hughes engines.

i know in my 2000 the shift points are controlled by the PCM, SCT can re-image your whole PCM its like running a stand alone, but not. It can change shifts point. My Mopar PCM did it lol.. and sct is way better then that.
