Default Throw out bearing or CAI?

So I was driving around today and when I am in first and shift into second I hear sort of a buzzing sound, a little more high pitched than an air pressure sound.

This just started on me one day after the new cold air intake install.

Could this be the cold air intake? Something with air, or is it the throw out bearing?

When I let up on the gas in first and second, but dont put push the clutch in, I still hear this sound.

It cant be the throw out bearing if the clutch doesnt get engaged right?

If it is the CAI, what on earth could it be?? Does the air get expelled when I close the throttle?

Thanks guys, getting kind of worried about this.

Jim

it's your CAI, the throwout bearing will make a grinding sound when you disengage the clutch ( push the clutch pedal down to release engine torque).

So I should hear the grinding type sound when I push the clutch in??

Why in the world is the CAI making that sound, it drives me crazy, I let up on the gas and "whirr". Not a nice whir but an annoying one??

Thanks for the quick reply man, helps alot!

throw out bearing is a bearing, also when a bearing goes, you'll hear a humming. but your CAI should somewhat sound like a turbo. mine whistles when im off the throttle too, nature of the beast.

Ok right on, so when Im at like like 3000 RPM and I let go of the throttle, it is *normal* for it to whir for a second or two?

I hope thats the case man, I wasnt expecting a new clutch at 50,000 miles!

yeah, throwout bearings only work when you disengage the clutch to **** or whenever you push the pedal down. unless it's hung up on the input shaft and constantly spinning, that will cause it to fail. climb under there, and if there's an inspection plate, look inside and look at the condition of the input splines and inspect the throwout bearing.

Im pretty sure there is no inspection plate down there. I'm just hoping its normal that when I let go of the throttle, the CAI makes that whirring sound...??

Its just usually when I let off the throttle Im pushing in the clutch at the same time. I will go out tomorrow and let off the throttle without the clutch.

If it makes that sound without me pushing in the clutch then I'm good right??

Fox, thanks a TON for all your helpful info man!

Nah, clutch feels fine. Everything is the same, and when I gun it the RPM's are where they should be and the car is keeping up with the rpms which is why I didnt think it was the clutch.

Also, having this problem right after a mod leads me to believe its the mod. Its just kind of a nasty sound, damn ebay intakes!

Thanks again Fox, I'll sleep good tonight knowing its not the throw out bearing. That is something I wont even attempt to do by myself!

they're simple to do, i rather pull a transmission and do a clutch job versus pulling an engine cylinder head on these trucks.
