I'd probably change the converter too but the tranny should work just fine. My .02

My mistake, everything I read on this forum up until I made this post mentioned only two engines (Further reading indicates a 5.2 or 5.9 being available). I'll take back the 4.7 comment and leave it as a 97 v-8 magnum engine.

haha dont worry im just busting ya buddy. we all do it on here. a lil further info, from '99- 03' ( possibly 03?) the 4.7 was known as a power tech engine. renamed it magnum when the magnum engines were phased out. the magnum engine were originally LA blocks, but since the heads were reworked to give better intake and exhaust flow, that made them magnums. i personally dont like chrysler renaming the powertech's, magnum engines. the powertechs did not have any significant engineering change to them to deserve a name change.

I would think it would work fine, Its like the 5.2 and the 3.9 which were the exact same thing minus 2 cylinders. So even the mounts should work, but I could be wrong. Being the same motor just a difference of 2 cylinders I would think it would work with the tranny also. But once again I could be wrong.

05 and 06 Dakota's were offered with the 4.7L and the same Getrag 238 manual as the 3.7's, so I'd say the bolt patterns are all the same. 3.7L Dak's now come with the
42RFE, and I'm guessing they always have, and they might live a pretty short life behind a 295 ft-lb 4.7. Still, as far as engine swaps go, I think this would be a pretty straightfoward one. A 4.7HO or one of the new 310 HP versions would be awesome, but probably way hard to find
