Angry 1 wheel nonsense

I have had it with the stock open differential. There is over a foot of snow on the ground and I know my truck wont be able to move unless I shovel the snow first. Even then, its a challenge not to get stuck in the middle of the road. my right rear tire goes bald after like 10k miles because it spins so easily in snow or rain so I constantly have to rotate the tires just so I dont have one bald tire all the time. Not to mention the stock goodyear eagle 255/55/r16 are like 220$ a piece. Anyway, in the february 2009 edition of mopar action they swapped 29 spline axles into the stock 8.25 rear of a first gen dakota. They also put in a Detroit TrueTrac LSD at the same time. According to the article its the first aftermarket diff thats actually strong and doesnt use clutch packs so it wont wear out. In fact, you dont even need to use an additive because its gear driven.
Anyway, when I get some money (which could be a while) im getting a truetrac and having it installed along with 4.11 gears at the same time. I cant take the peg leg anymore. The truck is just now about to hit 60k miles and has never had the driveline serviced so it needs to happen anyway.

I'm still trying figure out how a 40,000 - 60,000 mile tire can only last you 10,000??? Even if it's spinning in the snow.....that's shouldn't wear your tire down.

Do you gave a tendancy to roast your tires??

just my two cents.

I know I know I know, its ridiculous. look at it this way, an auburn LSD is like 400 and it will wear out and cant be rebuilt. a stock sure grip is like 250 and they're junk to begin with. this truetrac will supposedly never wear out. The way I look at it, if it saves me from having to be pulled out of somewhere one time then its worth it. Plus I wont look like an idiot spinning my one tire all the time resulting in tire rotations every 6 months.

This article in mopar action ALMOST makes me want to try the install myself... they make it look pretty easy. but im thinking i should probably just let a shop do it.

500 isn't that bad. you pay like 800 for a arb air locker. Even e lockers come to like 600 bucks. Maybe you should invest in one of those?

odd, i've had the same tires on my truck for....3.5 years, never rotated, almost 50K on them. still a buttload of tread left

and i never have traction problems in rain, in winter i keep 200 pounds in my bed and it sticks real good
