Your best bet, find a cheap used cd player with the correct jacks. Its a pain always having to remove the dash trim to change the cd player or even your gauge face plates.

Personally I wouldn't do it, and i'm the idiot putting a V10 in my dak.

IT's a lot of 2 way data connections that would be more expensive to get the right parts to tap into it than it would be to spend $100ish on the adapter. The adapter is good because you can hide the iPod anywhere, controll it from the dck, and it'll charge it too.

I had an Alpine deck in my last dakota and just ran a connector to my ipod and put it in my center consol and worked it through the radio, but I like the look of the stock unit in there.

Your saying it would cost more to make it work w/ the stock one than get a new deck???

Yes and no. You could spend $50 on a new deck now days. It'll be crappy, but it's cheaper.

I was saying that it's cheaper to get a pre-made kit than to try to make one yourself.

I posted this on another thread but didn't know how to link it:

I'm looking for the same kind of thing, but I think I have settled on a solution. http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=360
This is a factory, I think, part that connects to the back of the stock head unit. It turns the input for the factory available CD Changer (CD-C Button) into an AUX RCA input. From there you can add your own 3.5mm jack, or whatever other adapter you may need for your particular piece of equipment. Part costs $60. Caveat: I haven't done this yet, so I am just tossing around the idea. Hope it helps. BTW the CD Changer input is an 8-pin PS2 like plug on the back of my head unit. Here is the RCA->3.5mm adapter I like http://www.pyleaudio.com/itemdetail....s&model=PLIPG1
Cost of the adapter, about $10 (cheaper from other sites than the manufacturer)

It says up to 2001, but mines an 02. Did anything change on the head unit from 01-02?

You're right, I apologize for not catching that detail. According to the manufacturer...CHRY02-AUX would be the correct part number ($69.95). But it does state "Not compatible with “RBQ” (6-disc in-dash), “RB4”
(Navigation), “RAH” and “REV” radios." Verify these numbers on the back of your particular head unit. It's really not that hard to get the dash bezel off, I did it today (and had it back on after pulling my radio out) in 40 minutes or so. Instructions for removal of the dash bezel are in the FSM. If you need that particular section of the manual (mine's 2001, but I would imagine that didn't change too much), I would gladly email it to you, to big to attach.
