Looking to Buy my First Dakota
Hello Everyone I'm new to the forums and this will be my first post,
I am turning 16 in a month and looking for my first light duty pickup truck. So I'm looking at the Dodge Dakota. I found a nice looking one online has all the features and price is reasonable. Looks like a good truck overall to me.
The Truck is a (Black,2001,Dodge,Dakota,Quad Cab,SLT)
Problem starts at the VIN Number (1B7GL2AN912196683)
I am confirming with the dealer this week that is the correct VIN for the truck. but before then i was looking for some help.
1st) I Ran the vin Through The NCIS https://www.nicb.org/cps/rde/xchg/ni.../vincheck.html to see if it was totaled or Stolen That came back clean.
2nd) I entered the VIN into Carfax and It tells me there is one record so I am thinking The VIN is fake or incorrect My Parents cars are fine and they still have at least 5 records. ( if anyone has an unlimited account and would like to run it for s*its and Giggles please do and e-mail me the results @ Steven@txsteven.com) I would love to know what that one record could be?
3rd) I Entered the VIN into Autocheck.com and It gave me results that the truck was a Dodge Quad Cab D400? and that also had 1 record, so I am still Puzzled?
4th) I thought If i logged into the dodge website and checked the recall information I would be able to see If the Maintenance has been performed on it. Problem with that is that dodge says it is an invalid VIN.
5th) I thought That someone made it up so i checked it using Analog X and the checker digit came up either someones a good guesser or Im not really sure What else it could be?
So in conclusion This is a very well known Dealer in the Houston area and I don't think they would make up a VIN for a used car. I'm hoping it is a lucky typo or they got it wrong completely. I'm Calling them Monday Afternoon and going to test drive it Wednesday, but im kind of excited and disappointed at the same time by what it could be and I thought this would make an Interesting First post.
Hope Someone Can help!
Thanks,

You did look at it or write it down wrong.
here is your correct VIN...
1B7GL2AN91S196683
there was a 2 instead of an S which can be mistaken, the only choices you have for that part of the VIN # is M, S, or W. It cant be a Number. It should be a letter.
Try the VIN i posted above and it should work.. if not go back outside or wherever the truck is and make sure its not a M, S or W.. if its none of those call dealership. Cuz it could be a fake.
